I got to work this morning but I was like 10 minutes early so I was sittin in my 2001 pt cruiser listenin to music with my heat on. I shut it off cuz I was warm enough but then 2 mins later I started to hear a loud bubbling noise coming from my vents so I shut the car off waited a few seconds (cuz I was freakin out) then turned it back on. I saw that my temp light was on and my temp gauge was just above the redline. I turned it off popped open the hood and there was no leaks or spills. It smelt a little like coolant but I think that's just because I had my heat on. Other than that I am due for an oil change a trans flush and a coolant exchange but that doesn't explain the random heat spike or the bubbling noises...
