Rear power hatch won't open

Electrical problem 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 55000 miles

The rear power hatch on my '05 Pacifica unlatches and then opens a few inches and then closes and latches back. If it is open, it will close all the way and latch.

It's almost like the safety switch is malfunctioning, as if the gate came in contact with an object while opening and reverses and closes. I've been playing with the switch on the gate and can't get it to do what it should. I finally gave up and put it back where it was.

Anyone have any input on this? It would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

It sounds like it is a problem with the logic control module for the rear lift gate. Here are some diagrams of the component locations of the lift gate system. I also found the wiring diagrams along with this guide to help you do some testing.

Check out the diagrams (below)

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken

Well, thanks for publishing this schematic of the wiring.
I was under the impression the door switch resistor of 4.69K was the NC system and shorting it our would be the signal.
So I have to take it apart again and replace the resistor in series to the switch.
Where did you find these drawings they are not in the manual we have.
Thanks a lot.

Glad that helped you out as well. We have access to the online database of Alldata and those are the diagrams they provide. Let us know if you need more info. If so, feel free to get a post started with your specific issue and we can help out. Thanks

Hi Kasekenny,

Yes, this diagram saved by bacon. Now the switch is working with a ne]w 4.69 K resistor mix.

But I still have a problem with the release/lock mechanism.
Now I took it apart again to check one of the switches internally
he bottom spring is very difficult to get it back in the assembly.
But we see tomorrow.

Thanks,

Armin

The CS utilizes an electronic lift gate release system. In the unlikely event that the vehicle losses power or the electric release system fails the following procedure can be used to open the rear lift gate.

Obtain a large flat-bladed screwdriver, enter the vehicle and approach the lift gate.

On the lower portion of the lift gate trim panel you will find a 25mm plastic plug. Remove the plug from the trim panel by gently prying out.

Insert the screwdriver through the access hole and find the slot in the beige release lever. Rotate the release lever up and to the right (when facing rearward), Hold the release lever until the latch has cleared the striker.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica and the rear hatch will not open. It is locked tight and I cannot open it (either by the remote or manually).

How do I open it so that I can replace the latch?

That's going to be difficult. You are going to have to somehow gain access to the inside of the hatch through the trim on the inside but that will be very hard to do without damaging it in the closed position.
