It will shift to drive for about 30 seconds and the its drops when it does go in drive it will go up to about 10 to 15 miles nothing more.

Is the check engine light on?
Did you check the fluid level?
From your description, it does not sound good. You may have internal issues requiring rebuilding the unit.
