When I press the gas pedal, the car accelerates very slowly. It will also get to about 4 - 5 thousand rpms before it shifts gears, and will make a sharp twanging/clicking sound before shifting. If I let off of the gas at about 3 thousand rpms, the gears will shift and the car will continue to accelerate extremely slowly.

What is the issue here?

When this happens, does it feel like the trans is slipping or the car just has no power? Has the check engine light come on? Finally, have you checked the catylatic converter to make sure it isn't plugged?

Let me know.
