Check for overheated terminals and wires on the headlight switch. If any are black, replace the switch and cut the melted terminals out of the plastic connector body. Individual crimp-type terminals can be plugged in but they should be soldered to the wires for the best connection. Also replace about 4" of wire on each one that was overheated. That part of the old wire will be hardened and impossible to solder to.
If the terminals do not appear to be overheated, check the wiring connector for the dimmer switch. It's on top of the steering column.
