water pump removal

Hi acaill00, I do not know which version engine you have so I am attaching 2 different diagrams. Unloosen the locking nut on the pulley with adjusting bolts and unloosen the adjusting bolts to release the tension.

To replace the water pump, you need to remove the timing belt. Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable from jumper terminal. Remove upper radiator crossmember (may also be referred to as the engine compartment support). Remove electric cooling fan module with fans. 2. Remove accessory drive belts. Hold crankshaft damper stationary while removing center bolt.

Use gear puller to remove crankshaft damper. Remove the A/C belt guide/lift bracket. 3. Remove lower timing belt cover. Remove stamped steel (right side) timing belt cover. DO NOT remove the sealer on the stamped steel cover, as it is reusable. 4. Remove cast (left side) timing belt cover. If reusing old timing belt, mark belt direction of rotation for reinstallation. 5. Rotate crankshaft to align crankshaft sprocket timing mark with TDC mark on oil pump housing. Align camshaft sprockets with marks on rear covers.

6. Remove timing belt tensioner. Store with plunger facing up. Remove timing belt. CAUTION: The following procedure can only be used if camshaft sprockets have NOT been loosened or removed. If camshaft sprockets have been removed, special tools and timing procedure are required. CAUTION: Align camshaft sprockets between marks on rear belt covers before removing timing belt, or damage to valves and pistons may occur. CAUTION: When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage. CAUTION: When timing belt tensioner is removed from engine, always store tensioner with plunger facing up. Page 1 of 1 TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT - 3.2L & 3.5L -1995 Chrysler LHS 9/15/2008

my new problem involves the harmonic balancer, which i need to remove somehow to get to the water pump etc. I have bought the puller for the harmonic balancer, but i cannot break it loose to be able to apply the puller, any suggestions or hints? thanks again!

sorry, i am a girl, my husband called it the harmonic balancer, and i suppose it is actually the crankshaft damper.

If you have an impact wrench, it would not be a problem.

You need something to hold the damper while unloosening the bolt. Try your local Autozone, I believe they have a type of bar that is used for holding pulleys and you can rent it.

You can fabricate your own use an old belt seated in the pulley and using a piece of wood to hold while you turn the pulley to lock the belt and proceed with removal of the bolt.

I have seen people using the starter to crank it loose.

I the the same on a 94 3.5l v6 automatic Christler LHS? Meaning does the timing belt need to come off?

I overheated today, remove the thermostat because water was not circulating and building up lots of pressure on the Top Radiator hose...

No sure if it's the pump or the radiator is clogged.
Does the same without the thermostat and over heats in an instant. Thanks for the help in advance!!!!!
