Engine Cooling problem
1994 Chrysler Le Baron 6 cyl Automatic 80000 miles

All of a sudden when I was driving my car today I realized some smoke coming from the hood. I noticed the temperature gauge was climbing. When I got on the freeway the car returned to normal temperature but as soon as I would be waiting at a red light it started getting hot again. I let it coold down a minute and checked the coolant and oil both of which were fine. Later on, on the way home it was doing the same thing but this time I also noticed the oil pressure was rather high. I have had the radiator, thermostat+gauages, and water pump all replaced. I was just wondering what the problem could be?

Hi
To me it sounds like the cooling fans are not coming on as they should. If the vehicle runs at a normal temp when on the freeway where cool air is passing through the rad, then gets hot when you stop, the fans are not doing their job.

As far as the oil pressure goes, that has me stumped. The hotter the engine gets, by nature, the lower the oil pressure becomes.

Let me know about the cooling fans and then we'll work on the oil pressure.
