POOR HEAT in my 89 Grand Voyager

I have an 89 grand voyager, about 165,000. 3.1 L motor (I think)

I have never had decent heat in the 6 years I have owned it.

I have tried various things. Had the heater core flushed, (helped some) new thermostat (twice). My mechanic says that those old voyagers are just poor for heat. Put a coat on. I have a hard time believing that one.

I think at a minimum I need a new thermostat now as it is late october, still reasonably warm out, and I have little heat. I hate to think about a month from now when the snow flies!

Would a NEW heater core help?

The hoses that go to the core seem hot to me. They are hot to the touch at least.

Hoping to keep this thing running another year or two. Hope someone can help.

A new heater core made of aluminum may give you a bit more heat but not that much, check to see if the blend door is makinga complete seal.

My upper and lower radiator hoses are both hot hot to the touch. The heater hoses are both hot too.

I can get 162 degrees out the heat duct with my wife's digital cooking probe. What is optimal?

Chrysler dealer would like to repair the blend door for about 300 bucks. The independent mechanic says that ain't the problem, and that the old chrysler vans are just cold beasts, period. He loves Chrysler and has driven an older one for years, but acknowledges they are cold in the winter (at least up here in Minnesota)
