when i start my car engine shakes violently and smokes..... what could be wrong??

Where does it smoke from? Check coolant and oil levels, check for mixing of either coolant or gasoline in the oil, and the radiator, report back. What color is the smoke?

found out more, it is my son's car who is in the navy .. he hit a speed bumo at "10 mph" (heh) then car started shaking, pulled over turned off, waited, started engine running ok, but asa soon as he puts in gear to move car shakes again

Check the underside oil pan, tranny pan, and steering parts. May have even scraped open a tranny cooler line.
