My check engine light was on pretty much permanently and after a diagnostic test, there was a defective vent valve on the charcoal canister. The auto place is stating they need to replace the entire canister bacause they can't find just the vent valve. Does this sound accurate?

Take the car to a shop and have them fog the EVAP system. THey will actually place fog in the system and where there is a leak, the fog will come out. If you try to find the leak, you will look forever.

Let me know if you have other questions. Also, yes you can replace the entire thing, but I can't say if that will fix the problem.
