The heat will only work at speeds of 60 or greater. the temp gauge works, with no hot to cold fluctuation. when I run the car at consistant highway speed, the heat woks fine. as soon as I low down to regular stop and go street traffic the heat will cool right down to cold. What could cause this? Could it be a loss of vacuum on the valve?

Make sure that your coolant level is where it is supposed to be. Replacing the thermostat also helps. Yours may stick open.
