I have a 1991 chrylster new yorker 5th avenue. I know it needs a tune up really badly. But I feel there may be more then just that. I have no power. Its getting worse every day. Now when I drive it, it kind of spurts along. Back fires, and hardly will go up a hill. Can a tune up fix this or is there more problems?

Sounds typical of a plugged catalytic converter. Lack of a timely tune-up can lead to misfires which allow unburned fuel to enter the exhaust system. The converter overheats from the excessive fuel and melts the substrate. Instead of being porous, it blocks exhaust gases. It is common for the engine to run very smoothly at idle but have no power at higher speeds.
