I have 1 1986 Chrsylser Fifth Avenue, and I think my transmission is slipping. My gas mileage is HORRIBLE, and I have to put the shift selector in a gear lower than drive in order to get my car moving. It will go forward in 'D",put at a slower pace. Ive had the car about 5 months and would like to keep it longer. But with the gas mileage Im getting with it, I cant see keeping it much longer.

Hi Nick the Car Guy,

Thank you for the donation.

Symptoms indicates the trans is faulty and you are not getting 1st speed.

Moving to a lower gear would enable you to start in 2nd speed. A bad 1st speed indicates one of the clutches is bad and that can affect the mileage.

A rebuild of the trans is not going to be cheap.
