Engine Cooling problem
2005 Chrysler 300 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

car runs hot if left running and when you are in drive with foot on brake. Put water and coolant in car and the results sre still the same. The coolant gauge never show it is hot because it stays in the middle every time I she the white smoke coming from the hood. Can it be my head gaskets or my thermostat is sticking. I did check my oil and it is very low.

Hi:
If the car isn't overheating and you see steam, there must be a leak. It could be a head gasket, but if the car doesn't actually overheat, it's unlikely. What you need to do is identify where the steam is coming from and then let the car cool. Next, pressure test the system. Once under pressure, you should be able to see the leak.

Let me know if you have other questions and what you find.

Joe
