Transmission problem
2002 Chrysler 300 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown 102000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I just had a local mechanic put in a rebuilt transmission into my Chrysler 300M 2 months ago. I have brought it back for several problems since. Now I have leaks all over my driveway and when I brought it in again today they said it wasn't the transmission but it was a leak founf in the engine and would cost a lot to fix. He said I should just sell the car. Help??? I think it is the transmission and he doesn't want to pull it again.

If you wipe it up with a white tissue so you can confirm that it is brown. Transmission fluid is red in color, engine oil is brown-- however in order to change the transmission you must remove the engines crankshaft sensor, the engine dipstick tube, and if your not carefull you can disturb the oil pan gasket. When the mechanic removed or disturbed these items then an oil leak can easily and probably did occur. The seals and gaskets on these items must be replaced when removing the transmission.
There is also a seal between the engine and the transmission--If the mechanic has any sense--he or she would have replaced that seal when the transmission was out.
BTW -- Does it make sense that a mechanic tells you to get a new car? A mechanics' job is to fix cars not sell them...
