There is a level sensor in the brake fluid reservoir. Over time (assuming that you are not leaking brake fluid) as your brake pads are wearing thin (but not thin enough to the brake sensor), the fluid flows into the brake line, instead of staying in the reservoir.

You may add some brake fluid into the reservoir, but you really should have the brake pads checked.
