The vehicle listed above is a K2500. This car has sat for 10 years with no start. I drained the fuel tank, cleaned it out and installed a new fuel pump. I installed a new fuel filter as well. Other parts that have been replaced are the MAP sensor upper intake manifold gasket, spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, serpentine belt tensioner, fuel pressure regulator, I cleaned out the injectors as well. Cleaned out the MAF sensor put new fuel in with fuel additive. Code p0106 keeps popping up and I was getting a code p0300 as well sometimes. The car is running rich I can tell be short term fuel trim is very negative. I’ll attach a video with some live data and the sound of the engine. Later in the video I rev it to 2,500 RPMs and 3,500 RPMs and show fuel trims.

Hi,

When you cleaned the injectors, did you notice if the number 6-cylinder injector could be leaking?

Also, if you check fuel pressure, did you also check fuel pressure drop-off? In other words, when the key is turned off, how long does the system hold pressure? If you have a leaking injector, it will drop off somewhat fast.

If you haven't, that is where I would start.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

The link also explains how to check the fuel pressure regulator.

Let me know what you find.

When I was cleaning the injectors, I noticed they weren’t misting much. Some were coming out with some mist and a little bit of a stream. But it only came out with somewhat of a stream when I applied fuel pressure from the carb cleaner can. If I applied only some pressure it was misting. I had originally checked fuel pressure before cleaning injectors, and it dropped way too fast which is why I tried cleaning them. As well as replacing the fuel pressure regulator I haven’t tested fuel pressure since I cleaned them. I’ll test it again during a weekday this week and I’ll let you know. When I first removed the upper intake manifold it looked like there was a small pool of fuel on the lower intake manifold area. So, I assumed that it was from the fuel pressure regulator because that’s where it connects. Could leaky fuel injectors somehow cause fuel to get in the base of lower intake manifold?

Here is a video of the leak down test and also the car at idle. The gauge is bouncing around is that normal?

Hi,

The gauge shouldn't do that. I suspect the cylinder 6 injector is faulty. When you removed and cleaned them, did you check the spray?

Take a look at this link and let me know if you can check the injector:

Let me know.

So, I ended up doing a long leak down test of about 15 minutes and it initially dropped from about 50 PSI to about 40 PSI in a minute or two but then it held at 40 PSI at about 40 PSI only a very small drop for the next 14 minutes. I ended up pulling the upper intake manifold off so I could access the fuel pressure regulator and the I injectors. I jumped the fuel pump relay and removed the vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator. It was not leaking. I also checked the injectors for leakage, and they were not leaking as well. Then I cranked the car over a couple times and all injectors were spraying and the spray pattern looked the same on all of them.

Thank you,
Zane

I am going to attach some videos. Of the distributor as well as the lower intake manifold ports where the injectors are located. I had have replaced the plugs and wires and used a spark plug tester and was getting spark to the plug when this initially started. Both on the bottom of the lower intake manifold where it only gets air not fuel and in the injectors port area were wet with what smelt like gas.

Hi,

Something is leaking in the lower manifold. You shouldn't have what appears to be oil in there. Did the gaskets look good when you took it apart? Also, was cylinder 6 wet?

Let me know.

Cylinder 6 wasn’t wet but cylinder but cylinder 4 and 2 appeared to be wet. The upper intake manifold gasket looked alright, but oil didn’t run through that part. I didn’t take off the lower intake manifold because I will have to take out distributor and also take off fuel rail. Do you think it is the lower intake manifold gasket? Could that cause my rich condition though?

Hi,

I would think if there was a leak at the lower, it would cause a vacuum leak. That would result in a lean fuel mixture.

I'm going out on a limb and suggesting the cylinder 6 injector be replaced. I can't guarantee it, but I have a feeling there may be a resistance issue and it is not functioning properly. That is about the only thing I can think of that would have caused the fuel pressure gauge to jump the way it was.

If you clear the codes, do they come right back?
