Chevy Colorado ignition won't turn but steering wheel still turns

No prior ignition problems before this. Stuck in a parking lot- key will not turn- Steering wheel is not locked. Looking for some troubleshooting advice before I have to get a tow! Please!

Is the key badly worn?You can try lightly tapping on the ignition cylinder with a hammer. Sometimes that frees them up but you will still need another ignition cylinder.

SURE IT'S THE CORRECT KEY?

SOMETIMES I TRY TO CRAM MY STEP-DAUGHTERS TOYOTA KEY INTO MY WIFE'S FORD ESCAPE (THEY ARE SIMILAR IN SIZE ////AND ON THE WIFE'S SORTA UNFAMILIAR TO ME KEY RING)

YEAH

I KNOW THAT SURELY IS NOT THE ISSUE!

BUT!

WHAT ABOUT TRYING TO TILT THE COLUMN UP AND DOWN A FEW TIMES OR RESTING IN A DIFFERENT POSITION, THEN TRYING TO TURN THE KEY?

LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES
