Why do you have to replace the camshaft when replacing the lifters? Only have one bad one in the set.

The reason it is recommended is due to the damage a bad lifter will cause to a cam. If there is a rapping as a result of the bad lifter, it may have damaged the cam. It can be checked to see if there is excessive wear on that lobe. If there isn't and the rest of the cam is good, you can reuse it.

The bearings are worn on the bottom and the top is pushed in slightly due to bad rocker no execessive wear noted on lifter otherwise.
