My ATF is brown and burnt, the dealer I bought this from told me that it is not a good idea to change the fluid at this point. I have read that new fluid will dislodge deposits and cause more problems; is this true?

Well it could but that depends on how thinks are inside. Now with brown and burnt fluid things will only get worse if there is any problems. So changing the fluid is needed with the filter then you look at the pan and look for debri black debri or metal or copper looking swirls too. It this is pressent then you know you will have to rebuild it soon no mater what you do. I would change it so I could see what the inside of the pan looks like as far as debri in the pan and that way I know what I am looking to have to do.
