My venture has been using more and more oil. It now requires a quart about every 300 miles. Is the engine due for a major overhaul or is there something I can do to reduce usage?

It is either leaking it or burning it. Check the engine for leaks first, which is more common that major engine problems.

If no leaks, then it is usually valve seals and/or piston rings.
It is probably more practical to replace the engine with a low mile used on rather than a rebuilt.

But check for leaks first, it could be a simple repair.
