My mechanic says I need a new a.C. Compressor. The car makes a kind of low growl all the time when it is on. He says the drive belt also needs replacing. I don't need the a.C. In January, do I need to replace this stuff right away? Also this bill will nbe close to 1100 dollars. Is that reasonable? Thanks.

I dont know where you live but $1100 sounds crazy. If the compressor only makes noise when it is on then yes you can unplug it and it will be fine. If it makes the noise all the time you will need to replace it. Let us know.
