Yes and no. You can plug the return hose nipple on the side of the power steering pump once the line is removed. Then unscrew the pressure line. Not much fluid will leak from this. However, this is a good time to change the fluid (simply dump the fluid from the pump and put in new fluid), this will involve removing the pump. Of course you could use a turkey basteer to remove the fluid.
After that just follow the steps associated with changing the rack and pinion.
Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position before starting the job (this will insure that the steering wheel is straight when driving down the road).
