Transmission problem
1999 Chevy Venture V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 128000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My wife's '99 Venture has been shifting a little harshly between all gears and just two days ago the "Service Engine Soon" light came on.

I took it to Autozone for a free code scan and it came back with P0742, which is (for GM) a "TCC stuck on" defined code. Some probably causes were listed as:
(1) TCC solenoid failure.
(2) Open or short circuit condition.
(3) Blocked passage in transmission.
(4) Check transmission range switch for proper operation.

How can I test for any of these problems at home? Money is awful tight here at Christmas.
THANKS...

Without a scanner that can control electrical features, I don't know how much you can do, short of tryng parts. IF you haven't changed the filter often enough and the fluid, there may be sediment trapped causing the condition.
