How do you change the oil pump in a 1997 chevrolet venture van?

to replace the oil pump you have to remove the oil pan. the cam drives the oilpump by a oilpump drive rod. if the oilpump quit the either the camshaft has broke or the driverod has something wrong with it.but when you pull the oilpump off the driverod will fallout too.
