1995 Chevy Van Possible transmission or speed sensor proble

1995 CHEVROLET VAN
230,000 MILES • V8 • 2WD • AUTOMATIC

I can drive in any gear and shift smoothly intil i get to about 40 mph and then my van acts like its in neutral.

Before i replace transmission i want to rule out other possibilities. Any suggestions?
