1995 Chevy Van Engine runs rough and stalls

Need help!! My 1995 Chevy Van will start but runs rough with black smoke coming out of the exhaust. When I press on the gas pedal it stalls out and then won't start again. Where do I start to troubleshoot the problem... Thanks Rob

Check it for tune up and check coil
check fuel pressure regulator
check timing
