1993 chevy G10 cargo van. Engine cranks and turns as normal, but will not start. I think it may be the fuel pump which I know is mounted inside the gas tank. Are there any other things which could be causing this problem, before I remove the gas tank to replace the fuel pump. Also are there any test I can perform to diagnos potential problems

Hi there,

If you have spark at the plugs, you may very well have a faulty fuel pump. try taking off the fuel filter and using a suitable container see if you have supply & pressure when you try to start. If no fuel check for a fuse and also check for voltage at the pump.

pull off the gas hoses near the TBI or carburator, hold them in a bottle and start cranking. the result should be that gas poors out of one the hoses with a reasonable power. (the other hose is the return hose) If not the filter under the car can be clogged, is simple to change. location is about 1 foot in front of the gas tank.
You can also listen at the gas fill opening and let someone turn the key without cranking, you should hear the gas pump purr.
