1972 Chevy Van trans mounted nss

I'm one of the less fortunate owners of a vehicle possessing a lousy trans mounted nss. I had installed headers on the van, which necessitated my modifying the switch arm to accept a later model one piece tubing linkage for proper clearances. All was well till a COP car smacked into the van sending it careening down the hill after the impact popped the vehicle out of park( wish I would have seen it happen, musta looked like a Keystone Cop comedy chasing the van down to get it under control)! Now, after several painstaking attempts to precisely readjust with the pin in place for proper indexing, I'm still having a helluva time starting in neutral, by fishing for just the right spot to get it to work. It will not start in park at all, yet the switch tests live in that position. Definite head scratcher for me. HELP!

It looks like your modification of the switch arm may be the root of the problem. I would leave it in park an ddisconnect the arm and try realinging everything and see what happens. The switch arm may be off just enough to cause your problem. Or you have a broken trans mount and causing a misalignment there. I'd also check for broken motor mounts as a vehicle being hit can misalign a lot of stuff, especially a hard enough hit to knock it out of gear.
