won't turn off

I have a 94 Chevy 1500 with 140,000 miles. The key will turn foward fine but won't turn to back to the off position. Also the shifter was getting stuck in park for about a week before this happened.

Sounds more like the ignition switch-you know its spring load that's what brings it back to run position when you let go the key after the start.

Get it fix fast or you'll ruin the starter/flexplate when the starter decides to operate while engine is running
