I have a 1984 chevy truck. It will start after you charge the battery. So I purchased a new batt. It started for 2 days 3rd day dead as heck. So I tried jumpping it would not start until I charged the batt. Again. When it was running I took the positive and negative cables off of batt. One at a time and it stayed running so I dont think its the alt.I was having trouble with the door jamb switches not shutting the dome light off so I fixed them.I know its something stupid and im dumb when it comes too electrical stuff.I could really use some help here please, thanks dave

With the vehicle off and the battery charged, disconnect the negative battery cable. Take an amp meter and connect it between the cable and the battery post. If the reading is high, pull fuses one at a time and check to see if it changes the reading. Another thing to check is your alternator regulator by full-fielding the circuit and checking the output
