I have a 2001 chevy pk/up with a 5.3 v-8 gas mpsf injected engine with automatic trans. With133577 miles on it the problem is this. When starting eng. In the morning it takes 3 to 4 cranks to get it started it use to crank on the first try. I was wondering if the fuel pressure reg. Might be going out?I changed the fuel filter and air filter today but it didnt solve the problem it seems that when the trk. Sets for awile the same problem returns.I am a mechanic by trade but not up on current issues with mpsf injection any ideals woud be appreciated.

WELL ASSUMING THERE ARE NO DTC'S (FAULT CODES) START BY CHECKING THE FUEL PRESSURE. INSTALL A GAUGE TO THE TEST PORT ON THE FUEL RAIL. TURN ON THE IGNITION K.O.E.O. (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) PRESSURE SHOULD BE 55-62 psi AND NOT DROP MORE THAN 5 psi IN ONE MINUTE. IF THE PRESSURE DROPS OFF, YOU COULD HAVE, LEAKY INJECTOR(S), LEAKY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, OR LEAKY FUEL PUMP (CHECK VALVE).
