I have a 1976 GMC Grand Sierra p'up. On my way home today it started chugging and a few minutes later died at a light. My volt guage was going down. It was acting like it was flooded. It would turn over but not start. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I am my own mechanic but don't know much. If I can find it and get it off, I can put a new one on and it all works fine.

Is youre truck getting any fuel to the carb? Do u smell any kind of gas? Are you getting and spark from dist. Rotor. Try taking the dist cap off the Dist, See if the rotor piece is spinning, If not could have a broken timing chain, Also a plugged fuel filter.
How long has it been since you have a tune up, How old is youre battery & alternator?

Yes it is getting gas. No I didn't smell anything out of the ordinary. The fuel filter is relatively new. Tune up, hmmm, planning to do one as soon as I have a free minute. I don't know anything about the distributor other than where I can find it. It was an extremely hot day that day and it hasn't happened since. Maybe the heat had something to do it?
