07 chevy duramax diesel. will not rev past 2000 rpm. if it does rev, it will go to approx. 2800 and then check engine light comes on and will stay on for a couple of days. feels like a rev limiter is kicking in. runs great at or below 2000 rpm.

When was the last time you checked your air filter? diesel's need 10 times more air than a gas engine, so the filter gets dirty quite often, when is the last time you service that truck? I'm talking about replacing the fuel filter? I know they are about $90, but have you ever remove the water from the filter? the fuel filter is located on the right side next to the battery, accessible for draining water through the wheel well.
