2004 Chevy Tahoe hesitates when starting?

Recently, our 2004 Tahoe hesitates when starting cold. It hesitates to start just slightly when the ignition is turned over when cold, like the battery is weak. After the engine starts, it runs normal. When the engine is warm or the car was driven within a few hours of first starting, it starts just fine with no hesitation. Do you have any recommendations of where to start the troubleshooting process?

What to check next

Diagnostic guidance. Suggested checks and possible repairs are separate from the owner's reported results.

First clarify whether the starter turns slowly or the engine cranks normally for longer before firing. Ask the shop to test the relevant starting or fuel system after a comparable cold soak.

my silverado seems to loose fuel rail pressure over night or a full day at work. i turn the key to the run position for a few seconds then crank and it fires right off. run position turns on the electric fuel pump and brings the rail up to pressure before trying to start it. might try it.

The dealership I worked for I dealt with GMC YUKONS which is the same thing, It helps most of the cars when starting if you turn to the run position for a few seconds and then start it. As said above, try and hopefully it works. Just as you would a diesal, wait a few seconds and then start.

Discussion summary

2004 Chevy Tahoe hesitates when starting?

A 2004 Tahoe with 37,000 miles hesitated during cold starting but ran normally afterward and started normally when warm. Contributors suggested allowing fuel-pump priming before cranking.

Reported outcome: The owner planned to try the suggestion; no result was reported.

The description is ambiguous between slow cranking and delayed firing. Fuel-pressure loss was another owner's experience, not a measured finding on this Tahoe.
