2002 Chevy Truck Hard starting

My truck takes a long time to start and does not idle very well. I put in plugs, plug wires and new air cleaner thinking it just needed a tune up but that did not help. I had a new fuel pump put in about 18 months ago. Also I put in some injection cleaner last fill.

Hello,

Is you engine light on? If so need to have codes pulled.

If it cranks over for a while before starting. It could be a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator. Have fuel pressure and regulator checked.

Yes the check engine light is on. I went to the link you sent me and purchased a fuel pressure gauge. Following the instructions everything (pressure, fuel regulator) checked out okay. I did get a little gas out of the regulator hose when I took it off which I guess is not right. I also replaced the fuel filter. At first it seemed to run better but the same old hard starting and idling rough returned. Do you have any other suggestions?

OK, when you say you got gas out of the regulator hose, I take it you are talking about the Vacuum Hose, if so you need to change the regulator.

You said it seemed to do better after changing fuel filter. So the hard starting was even better? If so I would say the problem lies in the fuel system. So, as I stated above about the pressure regulator change it, there should NOT be any gas coming out of the vacuum hose.

Also go by your local auto parts store and have them pull codes....

If still doesn't fix problem please post....
