2001 Chevy Truck timing

160,000 MILES • 6 CYL • 4WD • AUTOMATIC

My 01 s10 has 160000 miles on it and will not run. It turns over and then backfires through the air system, before it broke down it started to run rough acting like it didnt want to go. I know its getting compression and fuel and it had a tune up not 5 months ago. What could be causing this promblem

Pull out the distributer and check the distributer gear for wear.
