Hi I just bought a truck at a state auction. When I started it up the lifters were making noise. I took off valve cover and no oil was coming out of the rocker arms very little if any. When you start it the oil pressure go up to 45 psi instantly. Help! Also the oil has been changed and filter and looks clean the motor idles rough acts like the lifter are not pumping up. How much oil should be coming out of rockers? I have built many old chevy small blocks and big blocks and I know that they shot oil from the rocker over the finders! But I have not worked on any newer ones

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

before I can help you I will need to know the exact model and engine size your vehicle.

Hi there,

I would be looking for an oil gallery blockage, as you say you have good oil pressure, has this been verified with an external mechanical gauge, i have added a list of items to check that can cause this problem, let me know what you find out with these tests.

Thank you very much, I adjusted the rockers and it sounds alot better. When I did not see any oil coming out of the rockers I just shut it off, after I adjusted the the rockers I started it and it was not tapping at all I let it run and after a few min. A little oil started coming out. How much oil should I see coming out? Like I said before all the old small blocks I have work on put out alot of oil. Thank you for your help. Daniel Haddox. Do I have to do any thing to make sure you get your tip?

Hi there,

Good result, as long as you have a small quantity reaching the over head gear that is ample, check that oil is flowing to all rockers, you may want to do an engine oil flush if there is excessive carbon built up under the rocker cover, we get paid per question answered as that wont be a problem, if you like you can click on the feed back link and leave a comment, thank you for using 2carpros.
