5.7 starter flies out against the flywheel in p or n checked the ignition switch starter and starter relay what could it be? It runs fine in d123 or reverse stummped in palmyra pa thanks

Exact same thing happened to me traveling home after holidays, 2002 5.7 starter flys out in p or n. Later that same trip, starter flys out also in d123; this burned out the starter. New starter flys out also, but now only in p or n. I have not solved this one yet.

My understanding is that the only components involved here are ignition switch, starter, starter relay, and Park/neutral sensor.

Can anyone shed light on this?
