I HAVE A 1997 CHEVY 1500 WITH A 4.3 ENGINE AND I HAVE A NEW BATTERY IN IT BUT JUST TO SAY IF I LET IT SIT SOMETIMES A DAY OR TWO THE BATTERY GOES DEAD. I KNOW IT HAVE TO BE A OPEN SHORT BUT WEAR. HOW CAN I FIND OUT HERE TO START LOOKING OR WHATEVER

I'd have to make sure the battery has a full charge and the connections are good. Also have to be sure the charging system is ok.

With everything turned off, if you there is excessive drain, you pull the fuses one at a time, when you pull the fuse on the affected circuit, the drain drops to normal. In the dark, check for lites that may be staying on. Under the hood-- glove box-- ashtray-- something.

To check for drain, checking amp draw is best. An old way to do it, take a battery cable loose, use testlite between cable and battery posts, If the lite comes on and stays on, you have a drain.
