1996 Chevy Truck 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 125K miles

I have a 1996 Gruman stepvan w/chevy 4.3L 6cyl. Vortec, 125K miles. It has been parked approx. 6 years (running good when parked) and was not properly "mothballed" for storage. How should I go about getting the motor ready for driving without causing damage?

Six years is a long time, but when I purchased my first 1924 model T for $200 in South America back in 1980 the truck had been sitting for at least 60 years, I just checked all the fluids put some fresh gas in it and it fired right up, after I got a running and warmed up I replace the engine oil and fuel filters and drove it home 200 miles it was the funnest truck I ever had.
