when I am stopped at idle the truck revs up and wants to go forward and I have to apply more brake to get it to stop again. It revs up for a couple of seconds then kicks back down. I also hear noises almost like a CD player trying to read a disc from my dash area, and yes the radio is powered off.

Hey the call is yours. If you dig into the job of repairing it I would consider replacing the timing belt and water pump at the same time. BUT before, consider these thoughts:

1. How does the car run right now?
2. Get a compression check on the car. Good compression is paramount.
3. Does the car burn oil?
4. Is the love for the car and the size of your pocket book compatible?

It could be a great car, but older cars require extra care and work. The person who can work on them is miles ahead, but they are work.
