The engine is a '95 350 v8 5.7L. I was having problems with it starting. I found the problem. I actually took off the bell housing cover to find that the flexplate(flywheel) was too far to the transmission side and was hitting the nose cone of the starter. Is it possible that the flexplate is on backwards? Or maybe that it just isn't tightened up all the way?

If this just started, chances are it isn't on backwards. Is it loose? Check for cracks. Also, has someone shimmed the starter causing it to be in the wrong position?

Let me know.
