1994 Chevy Truck temp gauge

On my 94 Chevy K1500 with 175,000 miles I am having trouble with the heat in my truck. The temp gauge is not working and I do not get hot air into the cab of the truck. It is not cold air just not hot. Both hoses going into the firewall are warm and I just replaced the temperature sender. Do you know what else could be causing the temp gauge to not work and why I am not getting heat in the cab?

Check the thermostat and the coolant temperature sending/switch located on front of left cylinder head.
