1988 Chevy Truck what going on

New thermo new radiator put 150 degree runs fine
put 190 like supposed to have runs in red line hot then will all of a sudden cool down to 190
also when does this looses about 1/4 gallon coolant
drive fine for little while then will go back hot again
150 wont let truck heater work?

Hi:
It sounds like the 190 sounds bad, like it opens all at once then closes again. Have you tried a different 190? Also, if you want and have a thermostat that will reach 190 degrees, place the t-stat in water, heat it on the stove and see if it opens when it hits 190.
