1986 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive

I am trying to get an '86 truck with a 350 running. Replaced all parts in the HEI distributor. The rotor doesn't turn when the engine is manually turned. The timing chain and gears are fine.
This truck ran when I brought it home and it sounded great. No odd noises whatsoever. The gears on the end of the rotor shaft are intact.
What should I check next?

Hold the drive gear in place while you turn the rotor did it spin freely without resistance on the gear? If so replace the distributor if not investigate the camshaft and distributor drive gear on it

Thank you. The distributor is fine. I will be going in after the camshaft tomorrow. Will post findings with pics.

...was reversed and was not making contact with the cam.
When reassembling your HEI distributor, always make sure the gear is reattached correctly.
This slight oversight was the source of some major stress..It's all good, now
