Engine Mechanical problem
1982 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I am having trouble getting my starter/fly wheel to work. Lined up as much as possible they will not work together properly. Something seems to jar the starter so much that I have been through about four starters. It seems to be catching at one point on the flywheel. It torques the starter in such a way it has split the bolt holes and the housing around the bendix. Could you tell me what might be causing this to happen (i.e. the crank, torque converter, etc.)?

You did not mention that you are using any shims, go to your local parts store and pick up a shim kit for the starter. Start out with the thickest one and work your way down until the starter sounds right.
