Smells problem
1980 Chevy Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic
I have a strong smell of gas in the oil, the oil also seems very thin.

Check the float system needle valve might not be seating or the float has a pin leak and sinking

Sounds like the truck is running alittle rich. Does it ping? Try a high octain in gas. There is no water in oil is there?

No I haven't heard a ping and there is no water in the oil. I am going to rebuild the carb and replace the fuel pump before I drive it again. Im sure the fuel in the oil is affecting the lubrication of the oil and don't want to cause engine damage.

Also check your fuel pump diaphragm may be bad letting gas in the engine
