What would cause the ground strap to heat up while attempting to crank the engine?

hi a cpl things will cause this. bad ground cable or terminal. bad starter pulling too many amps. eng prob causeing eng to turn over hard,, such as timeing.make sure all body and eng grounds are tight and clean. thanks billymac
