I have a 1966 chevrolet C10 pickup with a 350 and 4-speed standard transmission, the odometer says 65000 but since this is not the stock engine and transmission I dont know what the engine itself has on it. When I got it I had it running in less than an hour, it runs great, but after I fixed the brakes and tail lights I tried to take it around the block and it only made it half way and died, it would start back up but would sputter and die again, so I figured it was the fuel pump so I replaced it with no luck. And the carb seems to be working fine other than the choke but thats not the problem. Could it be the coil maybe? I have a project 1962 C10 with a new HEI distributer I installed and if theres a chance it could be the coil then I would just change them out. The one on the truck at the moment has points. If you know of anything else it could be please let me know.
thanks,
John

I ran across a '71 chevy with the same engine that would sputter and pop. Put a new carb and a new distributor on it. It turned out the new distributor contained the problem though it sounded like a faulty carb. I'm trying to remember if it was a bad ground connection or improperly tightened/adjusted points. Check to make sure you are getting spark to each spark plug consistantly. That will tell you if you have problems in the ignition system. Let us know.
